We have a new Democratic administration in power— one that will be much more accommodating to organized labor. The new NLRB Chair is a former Teamsters attorney. The new Secretary of Labor told the press in December, “I’ll work to strengthen our unions.” Multiple bills aimed at accomplishing prolabor objectives, including the Employee Free Choice Act, are working their way through Congress. The SEIU has promised to devote $85 million to an “EFCA Accountability War Chest.” The New York Times reported that “union growth in 2008 was the largest in 25 years.” Coming days will bring a significant adjustment in the balance of power between unions and management. Our Conference this year will be focused on those adjustments — as well as the need for you to react in an efficient, timely, and lawful manner.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide one student the opportunity to attend the 2009 Southwest Regional Student Conference in Colorado with paid airfare and hotel from Friday, March 20, 2009 to Sunday, March 22, 2009.  The hosting university is TBA

Join us Saturday, February 21st as ASU and Ottawa battle it out at the Arizona Student HRGames competition being held at Jobing.com. 

In this interactive Jeopardy style game, teams of three undergraduate students compete using questions found on the PHR (Professional in Human Resources) exam. Winners of the AZ State HRGames competition, will move on to represent the state of Arizona at the Regional HRGames and Student Conference being held in Denver, CO. This is a great way to help study for the PHR exam and have fun too!  For additional information on the College HRGames, please visit www.shrm.org/students.

The SHRM Foundation Regional Scholarship Program is a flexible awards program designed to assist working SHRM members in meeting their professional development goals. Individuals may apply for either an Education Scholarship or a Certification Scholarship, and applicants may specify the amount of money they are requesting up to $3000.

 Workplace violence sits on the extreme end of the scale of problems involving people.  Like a stored up charge of energy, it waits for certain conditions to exist to unleash its destructive force. A single act of workplace violence exposes innocent people to unimaginable horrors, and leaves its host organization reeling in an aftermath of legal problems that can endure for years. One such incident occurred on the morning after Christmas in the year 2000.

If you are an EVHRA/SHRM member, you are eligible to apply for an EVHRA Scholarship for the Spring  AZ SHRM HRCI Prep Course and the HRCI Exam. 

Two will be awarded, one for the PHR ($375 for course and $250 for exam) and one for SPHR ($375 for course and $375 for exam).
